Nightmare

2005 | USA | 112 minutes | Directed and Written by Dylan Bank

On the brink of madness, a director's only recourse is to make a movie of the savage murders he believes he committed.

The morning after a wild party, a young film student awakens in the arms of a mysterious actress. Unsure where they are, the two startle to find a video camera at the foot of the bed aimed at them. Suspicious of one another, the lovers decide to watch the tape. Their apprehension turns to terror as they see themselves on screen gleefully committing a savage murder in the room they've just slept in.

But there are no victims, no blood, no sign of struggle.

The aspiring director doesn't have time to investigate. He is late for a very important class - he has to pitch his next film. Arriving late to class, he recounts the horrifying experience he just walked away from, convincing them it's fiction. By the time the class enthusiastically votes to produce his movie, it is too late for him to back out.

So now, the director spends his days filming the waking nightmares that he discovers nearly every morning on videotape, and spends his nights searching for who is filming him.

About the filmmaker: A native of Philadelphia, Dylan Bank, 26, spent his adolescent years as a video store clerk educating himself with all breeds of cinema. He would develop admiration for a broad spectrum of directors, ranging from highbrow filmmakers like Werner Herzog and Stanley Kubrick, to low-budget horror mavericks like George Romero and Sam Raimi.

After graduating from Vassar College, Bank moved on to working as a crewmember on television commercials and UPN network's hit reality dating show Elimidate. During this time, he also branched out to features as the soundman on Rage and Discipline, a film produced by horror legend Roger Corman.

Since completing Nightmare, Bank has advanced into pre-production on his second feature film, a sci-fi action adventure entitled Genesis. He has also recently completed two other screenplays for Merlion Entertainment: The Followers, a rock and roll love story, and My Movie, a twisted black comedy.
