description

For this year's CanFilmDay event, join us on Wednesday, April 16 for a FREE screening of the Winnipeg cult comedy CRIME WAVE! Director, writer, producer & star John Paizs will be in attendance for this special anniversary screening the night before the Calgary Underground Film Festival officially begins.

Sitcom noir, or maybe Tex Avery splatter. Steven desperately wants to be a "colour crime movie writer", but he has trouble with plots until an adoring fan befriends him. Through a series of adventures, and the evil Dr. Jolly, he finds the strength to go on.

WHAT IS CANFILMDAY?
CanFilmDay is a massive, one-day coast-to-coast-to-coast celebration of Canadian cinema. Launched in 2014, CanFilmDay has brought together hundreds of thousands of Canadians, to celebrate our stories and the incredible achievements of our filmmakers. Each year, CUFF hosts Calgary's flagship event.

"Each and every time I see the film, I'm not only howling with laughter as hard as I did when I first saw it, but absolutely floored by how astoundingly brilliant and original it is."
- Electric Sheep
"CRIME WAVE is more clearly an homage to paperback crime fiction, but more particularly it is a work that considers and reenacts the labor of its very making."
- The Brooklyn Rail
