The near future. A Ukrainian space trucker, Andriy Melnyk, transports nuclear waste on the cargo ship to the abandoned Jupiter's moon Callisto. During his routine flight, the Earth explodes, but Andriy manages to survive. Andriy becomes the last person in the universe until French woman Catherine calls him from the faraway space station. Andriy decides to see her despite all the obstacles. Touching the most universal aspects of life — love, loneliness, joy, sadness — U ARE THE UNIVERSE is a genre-bending journey into the soul, infinity… and beyond. Written and filmed during Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Pavlo Ostrikov’s debut feature is a true wonder and a timely reminder of how important it is to connect with someone who understands us, even during the darkest of times.

DIRECTOR'S BIO
Pavlo Ostrikov is a writer and filmmaker born in Krasyliv, Ukraine, and is now based in Kyiv. Pavlo attended the National Aviation University, and in 2012 graduated with a master degree of jurisprudence. His films have been selected for and won awards at many international film festivals such as Locarno, Tampere, Palm Springs, Black Nights, and Brussels. He is a nominee and member of the European Film Academy, member, and winner of the Ukrainian Film Academy. His directing credits include the short films THE STOP, GOLDEN LOVE, and MIA DONNA. U ARE THE UNIVERSE is his feature debut.
